First, you should decide what material suits
your pool needs and budget best. In-ground swimming pools are made of gunite,
vinyl, or fiberglass. Gunite pools are the most expensive, but offer the most
flexibility in terms of shape and add-ons such as waterfalls. Gunite is used
mostly for commercial pools or sometimes by private homeowners. Most
conventional pools are made of reinforced vinyl walls, which can be constructed
into several shapes, though more limited than the Gunite pools. There are now
liner patterns and colors which owners may choose to customize their vinyl pool.
Fiberglass pools consist of a one-piece shell, which provides the shape of the
pool. These pools are less expensive than Gunite or vinyl pool and require fewer
chemicals to maintain.
